faith250 is a program that invites faith leaders and communities across the country to form clusters of congregations to act as sacred spaces for listening to one another, clarifying our shared civic values and celebrating our hopes for America.
Thanks to the efforts of our Spiritual Leadership team, faith250 is presenting America the Beautiful, a Sing-Along for Peace & Justice at Unity of Appleton Saturday, June 27 at 1:00 pm.
Katharine Lee Bates wrote “America the Beautiful” in 1893, combining the poem with music composed by Samuel Wald. The poem combines the themes of the country’s grandeur and need for moral improvement. The first and fourth stanzas celebrate America’s physical beauty. The lesser-known second and third stanzas raise questions about national power and sucess. Bates addresses the challenges of loving an imperfect nation experiencing political corruption and nativism sparked by increasing immigration.
Join us as we unpack the depth of each of the four stanzas through song and discussion.
